Slot Cars
As a brief digression from model railways, I have tried using my linear motor track for tiny-scale slot cars (1:220 and smaller).
Right from the beginning, I had slot cars in mind as a fourth application for the linear motor track (after trains, normal roads and canals). It has really only become practical for me now since the new controller developed for Penzance has two independent sets of track outputs, allowing two lanes to be coordinated for racing. This is very similar in concept to what Miniatur Wunderland is using for its new Monaco F1 track, but much, much simpler. While I can have multiple cars per lane, they always move in unison rather than independently, and no overtaking - effectively racing two trains instead of a horde of race cars. On the other hand, I only need two controllers instead of MW's 1000-odd. |
